Our Current Artist exhibiting is

Irene O’Neill

Irene O’Neill is a Dublin-based visual artist whose practice centres on abstracted landscapes that navigate the delicate balance between the natural world’s beauty and its increasing vulnerability. Working from Pallas Projects Studios in Dublin 8, she creates paintings in acrylic and oil that draw on fluid gesture, layered colour, and atmospheric texture to evoke the emotional and sensory experience of place. Her recent work explores how memory becomes embedded within landscape.. how traces, impressions, and shifting states of mind can be held in paint.

A period of focused research during a residency at the Tyrone Guthrie Centre has been pivotal to her current direction. Immersed in the rhythms of the surrounding environment, O’Neill developed a body of work that reflects both the immediacy of observation and the slower, more contemplative processes of recall and interpretation.

O’Neill’s path to painting is grounded in a long standing engagement with visual communication. Following a career in graphic design and training, she returned to formal art education through the National College of Art and Design’s CEAD programmes, completing a Certificate and Diploma in Visual Arts Practice before earning a BA (Hons) in Fine Art Painting in 2019. She later expanded her practice through the Royal Hibernian Academy School, completing a CPD Diploma in Painting and Drawing (TU Dublin, 2022) and the RHA’s mentored critical correspondence course (2023). In 2024 she began Year 1 of the Turps Banana Correspondence Programme (UK), deepening her work through sustained mentorship and critical dialogue.

Her first solo exhibition, Environmenta, took place at the Cowshed Gallery, Farmleigh House, in 2024, supported by an Arts Council of Ireland Agility Award. A professional member of Visual Artists Ireland, O’Neill’s work is represented in the National State Collection of Ireland as well as private collections nationally and internationally.
