Semana Santa (Holy Week Spain)

These photographs were taken over a number of years of visiting the Semana Santa processions in the south of Spain. I am exhibiting a selection of photographs Tang Cafe, Abbey Street, Dublin 1 currently. Prints of all images are available. See the Store on this site or contact me directly for more information.

“The Capirotes (coned hoods) worn by the Nazarenos during Holy Week are thought to date back to the Spanish Inquisition (1478-1834) and were worn by sinners who were made walk through the streets as a form of public humiliation. Today Catholic brotherhoods wear different colours to represent their different confraternities to celebrate Holy Week”
