Pearse House: Village in the City

In 2013 Jeanette Lowe converted flat 3b in Pearse House flats back to how it might have looked when residents first moved in the 1930s. She did this will the collaboration of the local community and the assistance of Dublin City Council. The installation ran parallel to her photography exhibition “Pearse house: Village in the City” at the National Photographic Archive. Pearse House is social housing flats complex in inner-city Dublin. It was built in the early 1930s to help alleviate the housing crisis in the city at the time. Jeanette’s grandmother Bridget ‘Birdy’ Ashmore moved from her cottage on the same site into one of the first flats.
